Ya Herd 2.8.2012



Dancing Through The Decades: Friday 2/10 8-11: This is our main fundraising event, proceeds will go to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Davidson.  Tickets will be on sale in the Union $7 or $5 each if you by two.  Please bring someone outside of Rusk and lets get a great turnout! Remember to dress up- it can be any decade themed, just have fun with it!  PLEASE SHOW UP AT 8 SO WE CAN HAVE A GOOD TURNOUT! Email reworrell@davidson.edu or hahinson@davidson.edu with questions.

-Self Self Selection Photo Payments- Need to be in to Grace Ballek by next week! You can bring money to house meeting or mail it to PO Box 6417. -Friend Rusk House on FB: The brain child of alumni relation's chair Julia Watkins has come to life! Friend request if you haven't already and suggest people you know to be friends! -Cigarette Butt Problem: The house managers have noticed a large number of discarded cigarette butts on the back porch of Rusk. Please remember to dispose of your trash properly
-Food Survey:A doodle poll will be sent out to tally how many people will be eating for each meal and for food allergies. Please remember to respond so the Kitchen managers can get an accurate count of people and we don't run out of food. If you have food allergies e-mail crcasal@davidson.edu or abbeehler@davidson.edu

-T-Shirts-Please your purchased Rusk goods or to purchase Rusk sunglasses ($2). Some t-shirts have gone missing from the house without being paid for, Publicity does NOT have the budget to handle this. Please please please return or pay for them. Contact degorsen@davidson.edu .

Service Opportunities
-10th Anniversary Prom Project: Monday 2/13 – Friday  2/17 10:00 am to 6:00pm in the Union Atrium:The Girl Talk Foundation, Inc. and Charlotte Mecklenburg Libraries present the 10th anniversary Prom Project: Simply Beautiful. This event provides prom dresses, shoes, make-up, jewelry, and entertainment for local teenage women who might not otherwise be able to afford the following items for prom. This year, the Upsilon Mu chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will hold a collection site in the Union Atrium. If you have new or gently worn evening dresses then please donate! You can leave dresses in the house and they will be collected! Contact kagaston@davidson.edu if you have any questions. 
-Buddy Benefit @ Duke Family Performance Hall on February 12th from 4-5:The concert will include performances from three of Davidson College’s accapella groups! Last year, we raised over $4,000, and this year we hope to reach $10,000! The proceeds go to our community partner Angels in Need. The organization subsidizes camps for children with disabilities in the Lake Norman area) - tickets are free but donations are encouraged. If you know ANYONE, family, friends, etc, that would be interested in donating to our cause contact lustacey@davidson.edu for more information.
-Mom Prom for Cookies for Kids with Cancer Fri 4/27 from 7-12: Looking for 10-15 sorority or eating house women to help us pull off our BIG night at The Palace Theater (Havana Banquet and Ballroom) in Cornelius, Friday, April 27 from 7pm to Midnight.Volunteers will help with coat check, registration, swag bags, vendor tables and assist photographers, etc.  Please take a look at the website and let me know if this might be something you all are interested in and we can speak further in detail! I think it would be a fun and rewarding experience for the young ladies as we will be recognizing local Prom Queens (Moms who have a child battling cancer) and the fact that this event is 100% pulled off by mom volunteers in the LKN community. http://www.queencitymomprom.com/index.html
-Service Saturday 2/18 9am-12:30pm: Will be going to Barium Springs and Fifth Street Ministries. It’s a lot of fun, a wonderful service opportunity and a fantastic way to get your service hours out of the way in one morning! Please sign up athttp://www3.davidson.edu/cms/x25721.xml. -Spring Break Alternative Break: You can still apply for this incredible service opportunity! Elene Clemens will be leading a service trip to Pittsburgh to work on an urban development. It only costs $25 for the entire week to participate.  If you are interested contact elclemens@davidson.edu
-Teach For America Each year several Davidson students commit two years to serving our children and fighting this problem as a corps member with Teach For America.  The final deadline to apply is next Friday, February 10th for seniors. Register at www.teachforamerica.org.  It takes 5 minutes.  We will walk you through the process from there.  Many applicants do not know much about the program until they have already started the application.  There is no commitment until April, but the LAST application deadline is next week so please act NOW! There are also opportunities for underclassmen through internship programs.  -Relay for Life: March 30th: Help raise money for the American Cancer Society! For 12 hours, someone will be walking on the track at all times and it’s going to be a fun social event. Form teams by grade, 8-12 people per team with one team leader. $10 per person. If you sign up early you get a free t-shirt!  Go to http://www.relayforlife.org/davidsoncollegenc> . Click Sign Up" on the right, then choose "Start a Team", Choose a Team name and a fundraising goal, don’t worry about the other question, Fill out all the rest of the info (there's a $10 registration fee that you can pay with a card) and once you finish, copy the link to your team page and send it to all your awesome future teammates. Join the Rusk Team!
-The Buddy System: Devoted to helping children with special needs. We meet with a group of elementary aged children every week, hoping to provide them with positive young adult role models. In addition, we seek to help raise awareness about the issues they and their families face every day. We volunteer every Saturday at DCPC at 11 am - 12.15. -Darwin's Birthday Party 2/8 6:30-8 @ Outpost: There will trivia, prizes, free food and an appearance by Darwin himself!
-Gamut Dance Company Performance Saturday 2/11: Come out and support your fellow Ruskies who are dancing in and choreographing the show!
-Phi Delta Theta's Voices for Venereal Disease Fundraiser Saturday 2/11: The annual Voices for Venereal Disease fundraiser is underway. Not only will you be able to be serenaded by Brothers to your favorite love songs and given roses, but this year, you will be able to purchase VIP seating to Airband on Saturday.So, buy a song, a rose, and get a first row seat at Airband. 
-Women's Leadership Conference March 16th-17th: Still accepting participant's registration! Tons of rusk girls are on the planning committee! There will be lots of workshops, dinner and speakers. $15 per student (which includes 3 meals). http://www3.davidson.edu/cms/x42066.xml

  1. Nice share! Studies are undoubtedly an important part of academic excellence of students. Kaplan and Princeton are the books for all types of entrance. Planning to get enrollment under one of the Best LSAT Courses soon for my exam at the starting of next year. Ready for the real hard work to achieve my goals.
