About Rusk

Rusk History
In 1977, RUSK Eating House, Inc. became the first all-female eating house to join Patterson Court at Davidson College.  Eating houses at Davidson are non-nationally affiliated social and dining organizations.

RUSK was named after Dean Rusk, Class of 1931 and Secretary of State during the Kennedy and Johnson administrations.

RUSK was formed to give women, admitted to the college for the first time in 1972, a place to congregate and build relationships with one another.  It would also serve as a springboard from which members could better serve Davidson College and the community at large.

RUSK builds upon this mission today while maintaining strong connections with its alumni and past.

Our Charity Focus

Rusk has been dedicated to children's education for years. Rusk specifically benefits the The Autism Society of North Carolina, and we are especially committed to the local Davidson chapter. The Autism Society of North Carolina is an advocacy, education, and direct service organization.

Each Rusk member should complete 2 hours of in-house community service (e.g. helping set up for Dancing through the Decades) and 2 hours of out-of-house community service (e.g. volunteering at Ada Jenkins). For each hour not completed, there will be a $25 fine which will donated to The Autism Society of North Carolina.

Rusk's philanthropy events are Dancing through the Decades (March 16, 2013) and the Color Me Rusk Run in the fall semester.
