-Dancing Through The Decades is February 10th 8-11, our main fundraising event, we will be raising money for the Boys and Girls Club of Davidson. We need help! Sign up for time slots athttps://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AqXqtQPYmzMjdFN0dWktRDU0ZDJZUVhiUTktYWsyMWc Tickets will be on sale in the Union $7 or $5 each if you by two. Bring someone outside of rusk and lets get a great turnout!Email reworrell@davidson.edu or hahinson@davidson.edu with questions.
-If you want to order for house photos taken at Self-Selection your orders need to be in TODAY to P.O. box 6417! Contact grballek@davidson.edu with questions.
-Corinne Hester is our Formal Chair. Join the formal committee if you want to help out and give input. Freshmen are welcome to join! E-mail cohester@davidson.edu
-Each ruskie (seniors are exempt) will attend one house cleaning on a Sunday at 2; they only take about an hour so they aren’t too bad. Attendance is mandatory! Elene Elclemens@daivdson.edu will be sending out an e-mail with assignments, contact her if you need to switch dates due to a standing commitment.
-If you want to be part of the House Improvement Committee e-mail chlandis@davidson.edu or sign up in the house. It’s a great way to get involved and change the house for the better (especially the basement).
-If you host a party or purchase anything on behalf of the house you MUST save the receipt and give it to Beth in order to be reimbursed. Otherwise she can not pay you back.
-Contact degorsen@davidson.edu to pick up your purchased Rusk goods or to purchase Rusk sunglasses ($2).
- Upperclassmen need to sign up for clusters for the freshmen dinner tomorrow @ 6!
FRESHMEN
-Freshmen dinner will be at 6:00!
-When done with your food, scrape the scraps into the trash (otherwise the sink clogs), rinse off your dishes and place them in the Tupperware. Don’t use the sink near the dishes cabinets.
-Freshmen are entitled to house meeting dessert and Wednesday dinners. You can bring one guest a week but you can’t bring them to house meeting or freshmen dinner because there isn’t enough food!
- If you have a standing commitment or need to miss house meeting, please e-mail me, Grace,grcheney@davidson.edu, so you can be marked as excused. Missing more than 2 meetings without an excuse will result in a fine, and no-one likes those! You also MUST sign in at every house meeting.
-Get excited for freshmen skits!
- Remember to submit stories to the nerd of the herd and announcements to the Ya Herd!!
Service Opportunities
-Dancing Through the Decades: February 10th (Friday). See the link above in order to sign up!
-Boys and Girls Club-sign up to assist the Boys and Girls Club (our focus charity); You have the freedom to design your own eco-friendly lesson. Only a 4 hour commitment (broken into 2 visits), flexibility with dates!
-The Buddy System: Devoted to helping children with special needs. We meet with a group of elementary aged children every week, hoping to provide them with positive young adult role models. In addition, we seek to help raise awareness about the issues they and their families face every day. We volunteer every Saturday at DCPC at 11 am - 12.15. Contact lustacey@davidson.edu to get involved.
-Buddy Benefit @ Duke Family Performance Hall on February 12th from 4-5: The concert will include performances from three of Davidson College’s accapella groups! Last year, we raised over $4,000, and this year we hope to reach $10,000! The proceeds go to our community partner Angels in Need. The organization subsidizes camps for children with disabilities in the Lake Norman area) - tickets are free but donations are encouraged. If you know ANYONE, family, friends, etc, that would be interested in donating to our cause contact lustacey@davidson.edu for more information.
-Relay for Life: March 30th: Help raise money for the American Cancer Society! For 12 hours, someone will be walking on the track at all times and it’s going to be a fun social event. Form teams by grade, 8-12 people per team with one team leader. $10 per person. If you sign up early you get a free t-shirt!
-Teach For America Each year several Davidson students commit two years to serving our children and fighting this problem as a corps member with Teach For America. The final deadline to apply is next Friday, February 10th for seniors. Register at www.teachforamerica.org. It takes 5 minutes. We will walk you through the process from there. Many applicants do not know much about the program until they have already started the application. There is no commitment until April, but the LASTapplication deadline is next week so please act NOW! There are also opportunities for underclassmen through internship programs. Ruskies in the Community
-Group Facilitation Skills Course for Davidson Outdoors begins TONIGHT. There are still not enough people interested! We currently have 4 people, but need at least 4 more. It is open to all students whether they are TLs or not. So, if you know someone who might really enjoying learning about facilitating groups on and off the challenge course, then please send them my waymigoode@davidson.edu
-Beekeeping Summit Thursday 4:30-6:30 in the 900 room: 2 ruskies are in this awesome club! The summit will include honey tasting, an introduction to beekeeping, and discussion topics such as professional beekeeping, bee biology, and bees in Nepal.
